Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, a 395-bed tertiary academic medical center, seeks a Clinical Supervisor for Labor & Delivery. The role oversees clinical practice, staffing, patient flow, safety, and resource use in daily operations, while ensuring compassionate, competent care across the age range.

We value BSN-qualified nurses with leadership experience, and encourage certification in specialty areas.

Qualifications

• BSN required. 1 year charge nurse experience preferred.
• 2 years clinical nursing experience preferred.
• Certification in specialty preferred.
• Unit specific certifications (PALS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, chemotherapy) preferred.

Labor and Delivery

We provide clinically advanced, personalized childbirth services with a collaborative approach with Advanced Practitioners and Providers. As a teaching and research hospital, advanced science is accessible for the most challenging birth situations.

What You Will Do

• Provides shift to shift oversight for clinical practice, staffing, patient flow, safety, service, and utilization of resources for daily operations. Maintains the environment of care.
• Provides care to patients in a competent, capable, caring and efficient manner. Care provided is appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Role models organizational values
• Provides real‑time feedback to staff to improve performance
• Leads/Participates in department process improvement to improve projects outcomes

Qualifications

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

We seek nurses who passionately support an individualized birth experience

• BSN required. 1 year charge nurse experience preferred
• Professional experience that demonstrates ability to understand the clinical practice environment. 2 years clinical nursing experience preferred
• Certification in specialty preferred
• Successful completion of unit specific certifications (PALS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, chemotherapy certification, etc.)
• Member of professional practice organization pertinent to area of practice preferred
