Job summary

George Washington University Hospital is seeking a Clinical Supervisor, RN for the Intermediate/Progressive Care Unit to lead daily operations and drive excellent patient outcomes.

The role focuses on mentoring staff, ensuring protocol adherence, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care. Leadership experience and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• BSN degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Active RN license in Washington, DC, or ability to obtain before start.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in a Progressive Care or Intermediate Care setting.
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• BLS and ACLS required; PCCN certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily clinical and operational activities of the Intermediate/Progressive Care Unit.
• Mentor nursing staff and support their professional growth and performance improvement.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality patient care and achieve unit goals.
• Address and resolve patient or staff concerns in a timely and effective manner.
• Participate in staff scheduling, performance evaluations and hiring processes.
• Monitor unit metrics and implement performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintain an active presence on the unit to support staff and provide guidance.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Licensure: Active and unencumbered RN license in the state of Washington, D.C. (or ability to obtain before start).
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience in a Progressive Care or Intermediate Care setting.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Certifications:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
• Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) certification preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
