Qualifications

  • ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation required.
  • 5+ years full-time experience in a related laboratory supervisory role.
  • Autonomy, critical thinking, and ability to oversee shift operations; strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily laboratory processes including HLA typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and chimerism testing.
  • Ensure compliance with ASHI, CLIA, CAP, proficiency testing, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Manage scheduling, competency assessments, and performance evaluations; provide staff training.
  • Lead validation and implementation of new methodologies; develop and maintain SOPs and docs.
  • Oversee HLA software upgrade and EPIC Beaker interface maintenance.

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. Under direction of the Operations and Clinical Managers, the HLA Supervisor oversees daily operation of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics laboratory.

Key responsibilities
  • Technical Oversight: Directs daily laboratory processes including HLA typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and chimerism testing.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensures the lab meets all ASHI (American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) and CLIA regulations, proficiency testing, quality assurance and CAP inspection readiness.
  • Staff Management: Manages scheduling, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and ongoing staff training.
  • Test Validation and Implementation: Leads and participates in the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new methodologies. Develops, reviews, and maintains SOPs and related documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.
  • Histotrac Upgrade and Maintenance: validates and implements HLA software upgrade and EPIC Beaker interface.

Preferred candidates with CHS certification, at least 5 to 8 years of HLA laboratory experience and progressive supervisory/management experience.

Position is 100% on site.

Essential Responsibilities

Maintains effective workflow and operations. Acts as an expert resource within an area of specialty. Drives Quality Improvement initiatives and seeks ways to improve performance and service. Recommends and prepares Standard Operating Procedures for designated area and provides training in the area of expertise. Oversees scheduling and payroll. Maintains timely and effective communication and feedback to managers and employees. Performs and submits to Human Resources all performance assessment documentation on time so that employee morale is maintained at a high level. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department. Direct Reports: 4-6; Indirect Reports: None.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology or Biological Science required.

Required Work Experience

5 or more year’s full time experience required.

License/Registration/Certification

ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation required.

Demonstrates autonomy, critical thinking skills and has skillset required to oversee shift operations. Capability and capacity to lead multiple projects and assist with staffing needs under the direction of department leadership. Experience and high proficiency with computers required. Web based application experience, Microsoft applications including excel experience required.

Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Pay Range

$100,000.00 USD - $135,000.00 USD The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
