Job summary

St. Mary's Hospital - Kankakee in Kankakee, IL seeks a Clinical Nursing Supervisor for Emergency Services. This role provides administrative oversight, supports the unit Director or Manager, and ensures efficient operation of the department during night shifts.

The supervisor conducts staff orientation, leads performance improvement initiatives, and oversees patient care activities within regulatory standards. Experience in ED supervisory roles and relevant certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  • PALS certificate and/or ENPC required within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  • Minimum of one year as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting; ED setting preferred.
  • TNCC certificate within 12 months of hire and CEN within 2 years of hire preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • CCRN certificate preferred for Intensive Care; EDAP etc. certifications may be required within 30 days of hire.

  • Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current federal and/or state regulations.
  • The Clinical Supervisor prepares, conducts and/or oversees department(s) orientation and training of personnel.
  • Communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally.
  • The Clinical Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the quality of staff and functions during their shift.
  • Assists the Department Director in the daily operations of the unit, directing, supervising, and evaluating personnel, ensuring the proper use of time, equipment and staff.
  • Ensure the efficient functions of the department.
  • Performs direct patient care, only as needed, within the scope of practice.
  • Continually assess care and direct staff to make immediate changes in the plan of care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  • Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC required 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Minimum of one year as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting, E.D. setting preferred.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certificate within 12 months of hire and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) within 2 years of hire, preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
FACILITY / UNIT TRAINING
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certificate preferred for Intensive Care.
  • In Paramedic Base Station ED, MICN, within 12 months of hire.
  • EDAP Certified Facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 & 2 within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum of 4 hours of CEU in Pediatric Training Classes per year ENPC preferred.
  • Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate within 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Non-OB facilities: Advanced or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate within 30 days upon hire.
  • Professional Certification within 2 years of hire, preferred.
