Job summary

Prime Healthcare St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, IL seeks a Clinical Nursing Supervisor for the Medical Surgical department.

The role supports administrative responsibility, collaborates with the unit Director or Manager, and ensures efficient unit operations overnight. You will develop and implement plans, oversee orientation and training, supervise staff, maintain patient care standards, and perform direct patient care when needed within scope.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN license.
• BSN preferred.
• BLS certification upon hire and maintained.
• ACLS certification upon hire and maintained.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current federal and/or state regulations.
• Prepare, conduct and/or oversee department orientation and training of personnel.
• Communicate with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally.
• Responsible for staff quality and functions during the shift; supervise and evaluate personnel.
• Direct and evaluate personnel, ensuring efficient department operations.
• Perform direct patient care as needed within the scope of practice.
• Continuously assess care and direct staff to update the plan of care.

Department: Medical Surgical

Schedule: Nights, 5:00pm - 5:30am, 3-12-hour shifts

Facility: Prime Healthcare St. Mary's Hospital

Location: Kankakee, Illinois 60901

Responsibilities

The Clinical Nursing Supervisor supports administrative responsibility for the department service functions and works collaboratively with the unit Director and/or Manager. In the absence of the unit Director and/or Manager, the Clinical Supervisor may assume the administrative scope of the unit assigned. Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current federal and/or state regulations. The Clinical Supervisor prepares, conducts and/or oversees department(s) orientation and training of personnel. Communicates with staff, physicians, and administration both written and verbally. The Clinical Supervisor is responsibility and accountable for the quality of staff and functions during their shift. Assists the Department Director in the daily operations of the unit, directing, supervising, and evaluating personnel, ensuring the proper use of time, equipment and staff. Ensure the efficient functions of the department. Performs direct patient care, only as needed, within the scope of practice. Continually assess care and direct staff to make immediate changes in the plan of care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.
2. Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
3. Current Basic Life Support certificate (BLS) upon hire and maintain current.
4. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire and maintain current.
5. Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.

FACILITY / UNIT TRAINING

1. Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certificate preferred for Intensive Care.
2. Non-OB Facilities – NRP Required 90 days after hire and maintained.
3. Professional Certification within 2 years of hire, preferred.
