Job summary

McLeod Health in Manning, SC is seeking a part-time Pharmacist to join our hospital pharmacy team on-site. You will accurately interpret medication orders and ensure prompt, safe dispensing, including IVs, carts and kits, while serving as a drug information resource for the healthcare team.

The role requires an active Pharmacist license (SC) or eligibility with licensure within 3 months, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy OR eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of South Carolina, required. Licensure required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interprets and enters medication orders in the computer for drug administration.
• Ensures that medications are dispensed and delivered promptly.
• Checks medications including IVs, carts and kits before dispensing from the pharmacy.
• Serves as a drug information resource for members of the health care team.
• Promotes safe and effective use of automated medication dispensing and packaging systems, infusion pump technologies, remote temperature monitoring systems, EHR, and hospital pharmacy tech.
• Follows hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures and patient care manual guidelines.
• Contacts providers promptly when medication order concerns arise (interactions, allergies, etc.).
• Ensures proper charging and crediting of medications.
• Adheres to state and federal dispensing laws and regulatory standards.
• Collaborates with clinicians and supervises pharmacy technicians to ensure timely and accurate services.
• Participates in training and education of new staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Correctly checks medications including IVs, carts and kits before dispensing from the pharmacy.
• Serves as a drug information resource for members of the health care team.
• Help promote safe and effective use of all automated medication dispensing and packaging systems, any applicable infusion pump technologies, remote temperature monitoring systems, EHR, and all other hospital pharmacy technology.
• Knows and follows both hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures, medication related policies and procedures located online in the patient care manual.
• Contacts the provider in a timely manner when there is a concern about a medication order related to a drug interaction, allergy, drug disease state interaction, issue with med reconciliation or other CPOE orders, and other circumstances as indicated.
• Ensures proper charging and crediting of medications.
• Knows and follows state and federal laws regarding dispensing of medications.
• Knows and follows regulatory standards and policies related to all governing bodies.
• Clinical Staff Pharmacists work as a team with a positive attitude when interacting with other department employees including pharmacy students and residents in addition to other hospital personnel.
• Should be knowledgeable in medications and exhibit the clinical and professional skills to positively interact with physician, nurse, and other health care practitioners in hospital formulary issues, in-services, rounds, etc.
• Provides supervision and direction to pharmacy technicians to ensure timely and accurate pharmacy services.
• Participates in hospital committees or other projects where pharmacy involvement is needed as assigned.
• Assists in the training and education of new staff members, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students and pharmacy technician students.
• Handles and resolves customer issues, complaints and questions to build customer trust and loyalty.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
