The Clinical Social Worker is a key member of the Addictions Recovery Program outpatient team, which includes board certified addiction psychiatrists and substance use disorder (SUD) specialized clinicians. Clinical social workers provide SUD education, assessment and diagnosis, individual and group therapy, and treatment planning for patients with primary substance use disorder (SUD) and/or patients dually diagnosed with SUD and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. The clinical social worker provides clinical services to patients and families which address psychosocial, environmental, age specific and cultural issues in order to maximize emotional, social and physical wellbeing and the effective use of health care and community resources. Clinical social workers engage in treatment that includes medications to treat SUD, utilize and appreciate motivational interviewing, and participate in team meetings where team-based learning and treatment is highly valued.
