Overview

Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking an individual who will be responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status within a high volume practice. The candidate will work exclusively within the EMR system (Nextech) supporting the providers as they interact with the patient. The candidate must be able to travel to multiple clinics to meet the needs of patients and providers, and support the clinic's variable hours (Monday - Friday, 6:30 am to 6:30 pm). Schedules are provided weekly based on the physician’s clinic, patient and surgery schedules. Clinic staff also have the opportunity for weekend hours if available.

Responsibilities
Clinical Functions
  • Obtains comprehensive patient history including chief complaint, history of present illness, family history of ocular and general illnesses, history of allergies, and current medications.
  • Accurately performs and documents visual acuity, confrontational visual fields, motility, pupillary function tests, dilation and ocular tonometry.
  • Assists physicians with laser procedures, injections and minor procedures while maintaining sterile and safe environment protocols.
  • Performs intraocular pressure checks after injections.
  • Provides compassionate patient care throughout the clinic flow.
  • Maintains cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms and oversees backup supply stock levels.
  • Counsels, consents, sets up and assists with in‑office procedures.
Research Functions
  • Counsels and educates patients regarding clinical trials, articulating complex study information clearly.
  • Conducts informed consent processes for research studies.
  • Administers all mandatory questionnaires to study subjects.
  • Prepares visit‑specific documentation and charts for the Physician Clinic Team.
  • Promptly requests all necessary medical records for Serious Adverse Event Reporting.
  • Processes and ships laboratory biological samples for analysis.
  • Coordinates and schedules subject visits within study/subject specific windows per protocol guidelines.
  • Transcribes subject study information from source documents to Electronic Case Report Forms.
  • Obtains any applicable additional or required sponsor training and/or certifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements

  • Ability to understand and articulate complex concepts.
