Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to support oncology patients at Fred Hutch and UW Medical Center Montlake. Onsite at South Lake Union, Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, start/end times may vary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Current Washington RN license or multistate license with WA home state upgrade within 60 days.
  • Current BLS card required with renewal every two years.
  • Minimum 3 years oncology experience.
  • Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience in clinical research preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain balance between participant care, protocol requirements, and compliance.
  • Advocate for patients using nursing judgement and research expertise.
  • Provide nursing and clinical operations support to the research team.
  • Educate patients/families and document appropriately with study team.
  • Bridge patient care from protocol to clinical care with clinic nurses.
  • Assist with pre-screening and eligibility confirmation.
  • Support adverse event assessments and data entry per protocol.
  • Document in EHR with protocol details for data entry and compliance.
  • Review concomitant medications and reconcile diaries.
  • Support clinic visits when research nursing support is needed.
  • Communicate holds/modifications to patients as directed by PI.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams; provide education to staff.

The CORS General Oncology/Solid Tumor Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) will support clinical research patients treated at Fred Hutch & the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake.

This position is onsite at our South Lake Union location. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The start and end times may vary.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains equilibrium between care of the research participant, protocol requirements and compliance.
  • Utilizes clinical research nursing expertise and judgement to advocate for others as needed
  • Provides nursing and clinical operations expertise to the research team
  • Partners with clinic nursing and study team to provide research specific patient and family education and documents appropriately
  • Partners with clinic nurses to bridge patient from protocol requirements to clinical care
  • Assists Investigators and study teams in pre-screening patients and confirming eligibility
  • Supports investigators and study teams in adverse event assessments and documents appropriately for protocol required data entry
    • Understands CTCAE grading criteria to assist with proper documentation
    • Communicates and coordinates effectively with clinic nurse for symptom management, or clinical follow-up, providing the clinic nurse with all applicable protocol specific information needed for patient care
    • Assists PI/Study team in Serious Adverse Event Reporting
  • Documents in EHR and includes research protocol details needed for data entry and compliance
  • Supports investigators and study teams in reviewing and documenting concomitant medications
  • Reconciles protocol required medication diaries
  • Supports research coordinators in protocol required clinic visits when research nursing support is needed
  • Supports PI in ensuring patient safety and protocol compliance
  • Communicates investigational medication holds/modifications to patients as delegated by PI and within scope
  • Facilitates communication and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams as needed
  • Provides research education to clinical staff as appropriate
  • Informs investigators and study staff of institutional policies and procedures that support protocol compliance, patient safety and clinical operation's efficiencies.
  • Identifies problems or obstacles in the systems and procedures related to research operations, and communicates to the CORS Nurse Manager and study investigators as appropriate
  • Participates in study required monitoring visits specific to the CRN job description when appropriate
  • Attends Beacon orders validation meetings as appropriate
Qualifications

Required:

  • Baccalaureate degree required
  • Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); and must upgrade to an MSL with primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire. This requirement may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval.
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Minimum 3 years of recent oncology experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated skills in critical thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstrated process improvement mindset
  • Ability to successfully work to deadlines and targets
  • Experience in the care of oncology patients
  • Experience with clinical research preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Baccalaureate in nursing preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years research experience preferred
  • Certification in Oncology Nursing (OCN), BMTCN, AOCN, AOCNS

The annual base salary range for this position is from $104,458.00 to $165,089.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
