The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse B/C in Infectious Diseases. This role involves managing patient care, administering investigational products, and supervising research staff. Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science, an unrestricted RN license in Pennsylvania, and relevant clinical research experience, contributing to studies focused on crucial infectious diseases.
Job Responsibilities:
The Clinical Research Nurse B/C in Infectious Diseases is responsible for implementation of research protocols in HIV, COVID 19 and other Infectious Diseases. The nurse is responsible for management of patient care, collection of medical and medication history, physical assessments, completion of patient visits according to protocol specifications, administration of investigational products by various routes including injections and IV infusions, procurement of specific laboratory specimens, conducting complex evaluations, and completion of source documentation and clinical research forms. The research nurse also takes an active role in participant adherence to treatment and study visits. Additionally, s/he is required to review all clinical and laboratory data, make assessments on severity of symptoms and diagnoses, and communicate with medical staff regarding protocol specific management of toxicities and adverse events. This position will require the research nurse to have a flexible schedule. Research participants are seen in the clinical and home setting during early morning and early evening hours, some weekend days, as well as daytime visits, and reactogenicity evaluations are done via phone call on all days of the week and year. The research nurse is also responsible for supervision of research support staff. Research assistants are non-licensed personnel assigned to work with the nurse to perform specific tasks that do not require licensure. The research nurse also acts as a mentor to nurses who have joined the unit with less research experience. Research Nurses are responsible for management of very complex evaluations. The nurse will be expected to conduct studies involving a wide variety of investigational products and various sponsors. This area of research requires dedicated attention and care to ensure patient safety and well-being. The nurse is responsible for arranging and setting up appointments for procedures in other departments when necessary. The nurse is also responsible for the collection of a variety of specimens.

Qualifications
Clinical Research Nurse B:
Bachelor of Science, licensure in Commonwealth of PA without restriction or limitation, and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Clinical Research Nurse C:
Bachelor of Science, licensure in Commonwealth of PA without restriction or limitation, and 2-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
The CRN B/C requires an RN license without restriction or limitation and at least
At least two years of this experience in research is preferred. Recent experience with venipuncture for phlebotomy and IV infusions preferred.
A BSN or MSN preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Strong planning and organizational capabilities along with attention to detail, excellent follow through and problem solving skills required.
On-site work required.

Administer investigational products, including IV infusions, safely and according to protocol

Enter and clean data into a wide variety of data bases
Perform participant teaching regarding protocol requirements
Participate in recruitment and community education events
