Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a research assistant to support longitudinal studies on children’s stress and trauma. You will interview participants in home and community settings, manage study records, enter data, and assist with consent processes and data analysis.

The role requires coordinating activities with the team, reviewing literature, and participating in data collection at times; some evenings and Saturdays may be needed, with mileage reimbursement for travel across Rhode Island.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Behavioral Sciences or related area; courses in research methodologies and statistics.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to commute to home visits throughout Rhode Island and neighboring areas.
  • Availability to regularly work some evenings and Saturdays; six months of undergraduate or post-graduate research experience; Spanish-speaking preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete research assessments with children and families in the home environment.
  • Recruit participants from community settings.
  • Assist in identification and follow-up of participants meeting criteria for inclusion in clinical research studies.
  • Ensure protocol eligibility requirements are met.
  • Establish and/or maintain study record for each participant.
  • Interview participant and/or family to explain nature of study.
  • Elicit cooperation and gather information to complete study.
  • Facilitate obtaining signed consent forms.
  • May schedule participant interview to complete documentation.
  • According to established protocol, may administer standardized and non-standardized research observations and assessments.
  • May review medical records to abstract information necessary to complete forms.
  • May request and follow-up on missing data such as questionnaires and the like.
  • Monitor adherence to protocol.
  • Follow-up with participant to correct or complete documentation.
  • In collaboration with the Data Specialist and/or Principal Investigator, collect and organize participant data into an appropriate format to facilitate data entry and analysis.
  • Enter study information into database.
  • May coordinate activities of others assigned to research projects to interview participants, to complete forms, or to perform data entry duties.
  • Review literature pertaining to research being conducted in order to better understand project and to gather relevant information.
  • May conduct classroom assessments at local child care sites.
  • May assist with coordination of early childhood clinical services.
  • May participate in data collection at a research summer camp.
