Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a value analysis professional to support system-wide clinical value initiatives. You will collaborate with clinical and supply chain stakeholders to evaluate products, promote evidence-based decision-making, standardize products, and optimize costs while ensuring patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related business field.
  • RN licensure in Maryland preferred; non-nursing candidates with value analysis experience may be considered.
  • Three years of critical care or trauma nursing experience OR three years of healthcare business/value analysis experience.
  • Education preference: Bachelor's or Master’s in Nursing, MBA, or related field.
  • MD state licensure or eligibility to practice nursing per Maryland Board of Nursing requirements.

  • Serves as liaison between clinicians, hospital leadership, supply chain, vendors, and GPOs.
  • Provides SME support for clinical product evaluations, trials, and implementations.
  • Drives communication and change management for product conversions and standardization.
  • Manages discontinued item processes and coordinates alternatives and hospital validation.
  • Reviews non-catalog and non-contracted purchases for consolidation opportunities.
  • Identifies and documents contract compliance gaps and escalates issues to governance.

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, supports and advances system-wide clinical value analysis initiatives across the system. Partners with clinical and supply chain stakeholders to evaluate clinical products and services, promote evidence-based decision-making, drive product standardization, and support cost optimization while maintaining quality and patient safety.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinates a standardized system-wide process for review and evaluation of clinical product requests.
  • Facilitates and supports clinically led (by Committee Chairperson & Co-Chairperson) recurring Clinical Quality Value Analysis (CQVA) committee meetings, including agenda development, documentation assembly and follow-up tracking.
  • Tracks request statistics, approvals, savings, and implementation outcomes using the designated Value Analysis Management platform, with other provided productivity tools.
  • Educates clinicians and stakeholders on request submission, CQVA process and assembles clear business cases that articulate clinical value, financial impact, operational feasibility and implementation risk for committee decision making.
  • Serves as a liaison between clinicians, hospital leadership, supply chain, vendors, suppliers, and group purchasing organizations.
  • Provides subject matter expertise for clinical product evaluations, trials, and implementations to ensure quality, safety, and clinical acceptance.
  • Drives communication and change management related to product conversions and standardization initiatives.
  • Manages discontinued item processes, including identification of alternatives and coordination of hospital validation.
  • Reviews non-catalog and non-contracted purchases to identify consolidation and standardization opportunities.
  • Identifies and documents contract compliance gaps and escalates unresolved issues to appropriate governance committees.
  • In Coordination with Directors of Materials Management/Supply Chain, identifies suitable product alternates for discontinued item process and back-order management with coordinating hospital validation.
  • Review non-catalog and non-contracted purchases to identify consolidation and standardization opportunities, facilitating vendor engagement and in-service support
  • Coordinates vendor engagement, product samples, clinical education, and in-service support activities.
Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
  • Bachelors degree in healthcare or related business field
  • Registered Nurse is preferred in this role; Consideration can be made for a non-nursing candidate with strong business/healthcare and value analysis experience/knowledge
  • Three (3) years of critical care or trauma nursing experience; OR three (3) years of healthcare business and/or value analysis experience
Education & Experience - Preferred
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Nursing, MBA, or related business area
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the Maryland Board of Nursing
  • Work experience in multiple surgical environments or institutions
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
  • Independently uses and maintains accurate, timely data within the systemapproved Value Analysis Management platform as the primary system of record. Adopts new tools, templates and technologies introduced.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret clinical, operational, and financial data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and influence outcomes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other productivity and efficiency tools used at UMMS Demonstrated ability to understand and explain financial drivers, cost structures, and operational implications of clinical product decisions.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time required.
  • Performs responsibilities with limited supervision, proactively managing deliverables, deadlines, and stakeholder communication with minimal reminders or escalations.
  • Demonstrates business acumen by understanding cost, financial impact, operational tradeoffs, and organizational priorities alongside clinical outcomes.
  • Takes initiative to identify problems, propose improvements with the team, and test solutions using structured, data driven approaches (e.g., pilots, PDSA cycles) as a team promoting consistency across all committees.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency aligned to business and clinical needs, taking action without waiting for direction when appropriate.
  • Actively adopts and uses system approved tools and technologies to improve efficiency, transparency, and outcomes.
  • Seeks and shares feedback from clinical and operational stakeholders to refine approaches
