Job purpose

We are seeking a professional, detail-oriented, compassionate Clinical Psychologist—Warrior Medicine to provide counseling services at the Military Medical Center (MOMMC), 99th Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The primary mission is to maintain medical readiness for worldwide contingencies by providing quality, cost-effective health care for the Military Medical Center.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Participates in and successfully completes Air Force Behavioral Health Consultant training. Demonstrates core competency skills to an expert trainer within 90 days of starting to see patients in primary care. The 90‑day threshold can be extended if the Air Force is unable to provide training opportunities within that period.
  • Provides brief (typically no more than four appointments) cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care under MTF policies (i.e., per the DHA Primary Care Behavioral Health guidance). Services mimic the pace of primary care (patients seen for 15‑ to 30‑minute appointments).
  • May provide classes and/or groups in a format appropriate for primary care (e.g., drop‑in stress management class, group medical visit for a chronic condition).
  • Successfully consults with PCMs on demand about general issues or specific patients.
  • Ensures PCMs receive same‑day verbal and/or written feedback on patients referred.
  • Consults with appropriate specialists, provides counseling, teaches education classes/trainings, attends all meetings/training sessions, and prepares accurate records and reports as required to support the services rendered in accordance with established protocol utilizing the current electronic health record and medical information system.
  • Delivers brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and BHC services.
  • Participates in team efforts to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise clinical pathway programs needed in the clinic.
  • Duties may include providing guidance, consultation, and clinical support to providers who are in training or not fully licensed.
  • Maintains accurate and current notes in the electronic medical records of all patients seen.
  • Consults with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required.
  • Participates in military‑specific training (e.g., use of local policies, pre‑post deployment screening, PTSD, combat stress, etc.).
  • Tends and participates in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to, quality improvement meetings, professional staff meetings, commander's staff meetings, primary care staff meetings, meetings of the mental health flight, High Interest Log case staffing, daily clinic huddles, and others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as directed by supervisor.
  • The contractor will abide by medical staff bylaws upon acceptance of privileges.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Psy.D. degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA‑accredited psychology program or a program acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force.
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience as a clinical psychologist. Must have experience in brief behavioral interventions.
Working conditions
  • Work Schedule: Monday‑Friday between the hours of 0700 and 2000. Shifts are normally scheduled for a 9‑hour period (0730‑1630), to include an uncompensated 60‑minute lunch break. Hours of operation may fluctuate based on mission or clinic needs with approval from local contract representative or supervisor. In no instance will the contractor be required to provide services in excess of 40 scheduled hours per week, and hours are not to exceed the 1912 annual hour cap.
  • If approved by the local contract representative or supervisor, the contractor may telework up to two half‑days (for a total of 8 hours) per week, providing virtual telehealth services.
  • Duty Hours: Monday through Friday, 8‑hour days with 60‑minute uncompensated lunch breaks (total 9 hours).
  • On‑Call Hours: N/A.
  • Overage Hours (IAW Base Contract PWS): Over‑age hours are often used by the contractor to pay overtime. N/A.
