The County of Imperial is seeking a qualified Clinical Psychologist I/II to perform professional assessments and develop treatment plans for Behavioral Health clients in Imperial County. The role includes individual and group therapy, crisis interventions, and coordinated referrals, under supervision with potential for independent practice as experience grows.
Responsibilities include directing and reviewing clinical work, ensuring adherence to policies, and supporting unlicensed clinicians.
Under direction, performs professional psychological assessments and treatment; creates treatment plans and goals with Behavioral Health clients; conducts individual and group therapy sessions; performs crisis interventions and emergency referrals; provides direction and work review to assigned clinicians; and performs related duties as required.
Receives direction from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises clinical supervision over unlicensed clinical psychologists.
Clinical Psychologist I: This is the entry-level classification in the Clinical Psychologist series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and provide professional clinical psychology support to behavioral health clients. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skills to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Clinical Psychologist II level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
Clinical Psychologist II: This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Clinical Psychologist series. Positions at this level are distinguished from Clinical Psychologist I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Education: Clinical Psychologist I/II: Equivalent to a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in psychology.
Experience: Clinical Psychologist I: One (1) year of experience conducting psychological assessments, treatment, and/or counseling in a behavioral health setting. Clinical Psychologist II: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience as a psychologist in a clinical setting.
Clinical Psychologist I/II: Possession of a valid California driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility, to be maintained throughout employment. Clinical Psychologist I: Possession of Psychological Associate registration through the California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Psychology. Clinical Psychologist II: Possession of a Psychology License issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Psychology.
A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
