Job description

Lead Clinical Psychologist

Build & Lead Backpack Healthcare's Clinical Psychology Program

Multi-State | Telehealth | Maryland, Georgia, Michigan, Virginia & Illinois

Help Us Build Something Meaningful

Backpack Health is expanding its clinical services and is seeking an experienced Lead Clinical Psychologist to launch and lead our clinical psychology program.

This is a unique opportunity for a psychologist who wants to do more than provide clinical care—you'll have the opportunity to build a program from the ground up, beginning with comprehensive psychological evaluations and growing into a broader leadership and supervision role.

You’ll provide high-quality assessments for children, adolescents, and families, including evaluations for ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other developmental, behavioral, emotional, and cognitive concerns. As the program grows, you’ll help establish clinical standards, supervise psychology staff, and shape a sustainable and scalable psychology service line.

What You’ll Do
Psychological Assessment & Clinical Care
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and other populations served by Backpack Health.
  • Evaluate ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other clinically appropriate referral questions.
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret standardized psychological and diagnostic assessments.
  • Conduct clinical interviews and review records and collateral information from caregivers, schools, providers, and other authorized parties.
  • Prepare clear, timely, and clinically sound reports with diagnostic impressions and individualized recommendations.
  • Provide thoughtful feedback to clients and caregivers and support understanding of evaluation results.
Build & Lead the Psychology Program
  • Partner with Clinical, Operations, Billing, Credentialing, and executive leadership to launch and develop the clinical psychology service line.
  • Establish referral criteria, assessment workflows, documentation standards, scheduling processes, and quality expectations.
  • Develop processes that support efficient, high-quality, and accessible psychological assessment services.
  • Monitor assessment volume, reimbursement, staffing needs, expenses, and workflow performance.
  • Serve as Backpack Health’s subject matter expert in psychological assessment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, access, efficiency, and financial sustainability.
Supervision & Team Development
  • Help identify, recruit, onboard, and develop a qualified Psychological Associate.
  • Provide clinical supervision consistent with applicable state laws, licensing requirements, ethical standards, and Backpack Health policies.
  • Review delegated assessment activities, scoring, interpretation, documentation, and recommendations.
  • Ensure services remain within each clinician’s training, competence, and permitted scope of practice.
  • As the program expands, transition into broader supervision and leadership responsibilities.
Quality, Compliance & Collaboration
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer requirements, state regulations, professional ethics, documentation requirements, and test-security standards.
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychiatric providers, care coordinators, schools, and other members of the care team.
  • Participate in quality assurance, clinical audits, utilization review, and corrective-action activities.
  • Identify and elevate clinical, operational, regulatory, reimbursement, or staffing risks.
Compensation & Support
Launch Period
  • Compensation will be structured as a 60/40 revenue split based on reimbursed claims for eligible psychological evaluations.
  • Lead Clinical Psychologist: 60% of revenue actually reimbursed for eligible evaluations.
  • Backpack Health: 40% retained to support billing, scheduling, credentialing, administrative, and operational expenses.

Growth & Leadership: As the program expands and the role assumes supervision and broader leadership responsibilities, compensation will be evaluated based on supervision workload, assessment volume, reimbursement, operating costs, and overall program performance.

We’ll Support You With:
  • Billing and claims support
  • Scheduling and administrative support
  • Credentialing assistance
  • Client coordination
  • Recruiting and onboarding support for a Psychological Associate
  • Approved payer credentialing expenses
  • State psychologist licensure fees in Georgia, Michigan, Virginia, and Illinois, subject to ongoing organizational need
What We’re Looking For
  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Active and unrestricted psychologist license in at least one state where Backpack Health operates.
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain licensure in Georgia, Michigan, Virginia, and Illinois.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations.
  • Experience assessing ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other developmental, behavioral, emotional, or cognitive conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of standardized psychological testing, diagnostic formulation, report writing, informed consent, test security, and professional ethics.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervision experience with Psychological Associates, trainees, or assessment professionals preferred.
  • Experience with Medicaid, managed care, telehealth, multi-state practice, payer authorization, or psychological testing reimbursement is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with clinical and operational leadership.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for building a new clinical program from the ground up.
Why Backpack Healthcare?

This is more than a clinical role—it's an opportunity to shape the future of psychological assessment at Backpack Healthcare.
