Job summary

University of Massachusetts Boston is seeking a Clinical Placement Specialist to coordinate student clinical placements for the MCNHS. The role partners with program directors and coordinators, negotiating agreements with healthcare agencies and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and health requirements.

You will manage site placements, maintain manuals and websites, and guide ABSN and RN-BS students through the placement process while supporting reporting and strategic planning efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred. An additional one-three years of work experience in health care or closely related field is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and other information utilizing and maintaining spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to access and enter data from information management systems and student information systems accurately.
  • Ability to verify unencumbered nursing license needed for clinical placement.
  • Ability to understand licensure requirements for various online nursing programs.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative setting.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to prepare written reports, correspondence and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the MCNHS agreement specialist in creating and maintaining all external agency working agreements/MOU for clinical placements.
  • Generate placement locations for student clinical sites while representing the College in communication with healthcare partners.
  • Accurately collect, record, and update all student information and clinical clearances including FERPA, HIPAA, health requirements and agency clearance in MCNHS databases.
  • Collect evaluation learning outcome data from agencies, faculty/preceptors and students for quality assessment and improvement.
  • Maintain working relationship with the Centralized Clinical Placements for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to assist in placement of undergrad students.
  • Maintain currency of the CIPO Practice Manual and liaise with the college webmaster to ensure content accuracy.
  • Assist ABSN and RN-BS students by guiding them through Q&A related to clinical placement process.
  • Support reporting needs at programmatic and college level including data for annual reports and strategic plans.
  • Participate in meetings with executive leadership, faculty, staff and external agency partners as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff to support Open House, Commencement and orientation sessions.

Summary of Position:

The Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) Clinical Placement Specialist works with all aspects of placing students in clinical learning experiences for all programs in the college but primarily for the Accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing (ABSN), and the RN-BS option. The staff member will work directly with all assigned MCNHS program directors and program assistants in assessing, planning, and implementing students' clinical placements. The incumbent will assist in finding and sustaining internship placements and clinical experiences for students, as well as negotiating and executing working agreements with agencies in collaboration with our agreements specialist and will report directly to the Lead Clinical Coordinator for the Department of Nursing.

Examples of Duties:

  • Assist the MCNHS agreement specialist in creating and maintaining all external agency working agreements/Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for clinical placements;
  • Generate placement locations for student clinical sites while representing the College professionally in communication with diverse healthcare partners; collaboration including, but not limited to, large parent organizations, community-based facilities, public service departments and their respective attorneys, legal teams, healthcare professionals, and clinical coordinators;
  • Accurately collect, record, and update all student information and clinical clearances, including but not limited to, FERPA permission, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), current health requirements and health insurance and agency-specific clearance requirements in MCNHS databases;
  • Collect evaluation learning outcome data from agencies, faculty/preceptors and students related to quality of student clinical placement and internship experiences for quality assessment and improvement;
  • Maintain working relationship with the Centralized Clinical Placements for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to assist in the placement of undergraduate students in the Accelerated Nursing program tracks;
  • Maintain currency of the Clinical and Internship Placement Office (CIPO) Practice Manual and serve as liaison to the college webmaster to maintain accuracy of CIPO website content and functionality;
  • Assist all ABSN and RN-BS students by guiding and helping them through Q&A relative to clinical placement process;
  • Support all reporting needs at the programmatic and college level including data for the annual report and strategic plan;
  • Participate in selected meetings as needed, such as executive leadership team, faculty, staff and external meetings with clinical agencies;
  • Collaborate with staff members to support various office programs, including Open House, Commencement and other informational orientation sessions;
  • Provide for cross-functional staff support during peak periods of activity;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
