Job summary

Huntsville Hospital Health System in Decatur, AL seeks a pharmacist to accurately interpret physician orders, dispense medications promptly, and ensure safety through dosing and profile reviews.

You will utilize Pyxis, supervise technicians, provide drug information, and support inventory management and formulary updates while ensuring quality patient care in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Computers: word processing and Excel skills required.
  • Experience: hospital setting preferred; new graduates eligible with hospital rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interprets physician orders; including dosing, allergies, interactions and patient profile review.
  • Dispenses medications in a timely manner, in the assigned campus/area, using aseptic technique for IV admixture and proper paperwork for controlled substances.
  • Performs clinical functions such as renal dosing, PK dosing, profile review and patient education.
  • Assists with inventory management for special orders, formulary conversions and out-of-dates.
  • Provides drug information to physicians, nurses and patients.
  • Utilizes Pyxis appropriately.
  • Directs and supervises the work of pharmacy technicians.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Accurately interprets physician orders; including dosing, allergies, interactions and patient profile review.
  • Accurately dispenses medications at the campus/ area assigned in a timely manner, in the appropriate quantities, using the appropriate techniques (ie: aseptic technique for IV admixture, appropriate paperwork for controlled substances).
  • Performs clinical functions appropriate to the campus/ area assigned; including but not limited to - renal dosing, kinetic dosing, profile review, and patient education.
  • Assists with inventory management as appropriate for special order items, conversion to formulary items, and processing out of dates.
  • Provides appropriate drug information to physicians, nurses, and patients.
  • Appropriately utilizes Pyxis
  • Directs and supervises work of pharmacy technicians appropriately.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: computer skills with word & excel.

Education: BS or Pharm D from an accredited college of Pharmacy

Experience: Hospital experience preferred, but new graduate is eligible with hospital rotations
