Job summary

Medasource seeks a Clinical Pharmacist, Oncology in Massachusetts to provide specialized pharmaceutical care for oncology patients. You will interpret and verify medication orders, dispense medications, review orders from staff, and support prescribers to ensure safe, effective therapy.

You will educate patients and caregivers on oncology treatments and participate in quality improvement initiatives. The role also supervises pharmacy support staff to ensure accurate preparation and distribution

Qualifications

• Three to four years of pharmacist experience preferred, hospital-based oncology pharmacy experience highly preferred.
• Current license and registration by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
• Analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources and summarize data to solve problems.
• Strong communication and writing skills to address issues and educate patients and caregivers.

Job description

The Clinical Pharmacist, Oncology provides specialized pharmaceutical care to support the safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment of oncology patients. This role interprets, evaluates, verifies, and dispenses medication orders to ensure appropriate drug therapy, identifies and resolves potential medication-related concerns in collaboration with prescribers, and reviews the accuracy of medications prepared by pharmacy support personnel. The Clinical Pharmacist serves as a medication expert by providing drug information, educating patients and caregivers on oncology therapies, completing medication history documentation, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, this position supervises pharmacy support personnel to ensure medications are prepared and distributed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and the highest standards of oncology patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpreting and evaluating medication orders to ensure drug and dosage are appropriate for the patient and to identify possible adverse reactions, contacting the physician as needed.
• Reviewing, filling, and dispensing physician medication orders/prescriptions.
• Checking orders/prescriptions filled by support personnel, verifying products are correctly prepared and labeled.
• Providing drug information as a subject matter expert.
• Completing medication history documentation.
• Performing quality improvement activities.
• Supervising support personnel within the assigned work area and ensuring products are prepared and distributed in accordance with established procedures, schedules, and protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Experience:

• Three to four years of previous pharmacist experience preferred; previous hospital-based oncology pharmacy experience highly preferred.
• Current license and registration by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
• Analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize information and data to solve problems or design relatively complex systems and programs.
• Communication skills to effectively address conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, along with well-developed writing skills.

Licensure:

• Current license and registration by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts. Primarily days, with a rotating schedule every fourth weekend.
