Job description

For a pharmacist drawn to the most complex moments in neonatal medicine, this Clinical Pharmacist NICU opportunity offers rare professional depth. You will practice within a Level IV NICU at a major academic medical center, helping shape high-acuity neonatal care while managing sophisticated medication strategies for critically ill newborns.

The healthcare organization supports advanced clinical pharmacy practice through visible leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and meaningful clinician autonomy. Joining a multidisciplinary clinical pharmacy team provides reliable peer support, thoughtful onboarding, and an environment where experienced specialists can contribute early. A collaborative workplace culture, consistent pharmacy partnership, and access to increasingly complex practice opportunities create a strong platform for long-term career growth.

Within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Clinical Pharmacist NICU will oversee complex neonatal pharmacotherapy across a fast-moving critical care environment. Daily practice includes evaluating medication selection, dosing, monitoring, compatibility, safety, and stewardship for medically fragile newborns. The pharmacist will participate in rounds, advise neonatologists and bedside clinicians, support pharmacy workflow, and help resolve urgent therapeutic questions. The scope offers substantial decision-making authority, leadership visibility, and influence over quality improvement, medication-use processes, and evidence-informed neonatal care.

Reporting through pharmacy leadership, this Neonatal Clinical Pharmacist will receive executive support while maintaining close relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, nutrition, and other ancillary partners. Primary responsibilities extend beyond order review to include operational ownership, staff education, protocol development, medication safety, and clinical standardization. The successful pharmacist will translate neonatal expertise into practical improvements that strengthen team performance, patient care, and broader organizational goals.

Houston Metro Texas delivers an appealing balance of professional access and everyday livability. The region is known for a highly regarded dining scene, performing arts, professional sports, year-round recreation, and diverse communities. Candidates can explore varied housing and lifestyle options, from established family-oriented areas with access to schools and parks to more urban settings near entertainment and cultural amenities. Multiple residential hubs also provide flexibility when considering commute preferences.

The anticipated salary range is complemented by healthcare benefits that may include medical coverage, retirement programs, paid time off, and continuing education support. Professional development resources and leadership growth opportunities further strengthen the package for a pharmacist ready to expand strategic influence.
