Job summary

The University of Arizona's Petersen HIV Clinic is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join a multidisciplinary team supporting HIV patients through medication management and adherence programs.

Responsibilities include reviewing orders for interactions, initiating therapy changes per HIV standards, coordinating lab monitoring, and helping with patient education and program support within the Ryan White framework.

Qualifications

• Licensed pharmacist in AZ or eligible for AZ licensure.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical pharmacy experience.

Job description

Position Highlights

The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases' Petersen HIV Clinic provides comprehensive healthcare and support services to people with, or at risk for HIV. The Clinical Pharmacist will work as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of ID physicians and members of the Ryan White program to provide excellent levels of care for patients, to include treatment adherence services.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Evaluates medication orders for contraindications; drug-drug interactions; drug-food interactions; allergies and appropriateness of drug, dose, frequency and route. Formulate patients’ treatment plans and initiate, modify, and continue appropriate drug therapy in accordance with HIV standards of practice or in consultation with the primary physicians.
• Initiate requests for appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic studies as needed for monitoring drug therapy.
• Provide treatment adherence counseling and support for patients in the HIV Treatment Adherence Program.
• Assist patient and multidisciplinary team with solving medication issues (i.e., prior authorization, patient assistance programs, and financial support programs).
• Act as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in clinic. Provides educational information for patients and families, program staff, and other patient care professionals. This may be in the form of a continuing education presentation or other department‑wide communication.

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy, or currently licensed in another state and eligible for licensure in the State of Arizona with the requirement to obtain licensure by the date of hire.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. With completion of three (3) years of clinical pharmacy experience providing comprehensive medication management services in ambulatory care/internal medicine/infectious diseases setting within the last three (3) years or equivalent of completing an ASHP accredited PGY1 with ambulatory care/internal medicine/infectious diseases experience.
• Experience with HIV/AIDS medications and treatment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of ASHP accredited PGY2 with specialization in ambulatory care, infectious diseases, internal medicine or equivalent work experience.
• Board certification or Certified Pharmacist by American Academy of HIV Medicine.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Experience with Quality Improvement practices.
• Experience working in a clinical/hospital setting or with populations who are at high risk for HIV/AIDS or other disease states.
