Shape medication-use decisions that reach far beyond a single patient encounter. As a Clinical Pharmacist on UVA Health’s Medication Use Strategy team, you will help solve complex medication challenges and translate clinical evidence, operational realities, and stakeholder input into safer, more effective medication practices across the health system.

This opportunity is designed for an experienced pharmacist who enjoys strategic problem-solving, project leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Rather than focusing on routine order verification or direct patient care, you will influence formulary strategy, medication utilization, shortage response, committee governance, and implementation across inpatient, ambulatory, infusion, and specialty environments.

The Role

No two days are exactly alike in this highly visible, project-driven position. You will work across UVA Health to evaluate medication-use questions, identify optimization opportunities, coordinate decisions, and move initiatives from recommendation through implementation. Your primary service-line focus will include ambulatory care, infusion centers, Hematology/Oncology, and related outpatient clinical areas.

In an average day, you may prepare for a pharmacy committee, address an urgent drug shortage, analyze an infusion-center utilization question, or bring clinical and operational partners together around a system-wide improvement. You will balance planned strategic work with emerging medication needs, making flexibility, organization, and sound clinical judgment essential.

Key contributions include:

• Support enterprise-wide medication utilization, formulary, and stewardship initiatives.
• Develop and coordinate drug shortage mitigation strategies in partnership with clinical and operational stakeholders.
• Lead or support pharmacy-related committees by preparing agendas and materials, documenting decisions and action items, and facilitating implementation.
• Evaluate medication-use requests and identify opportunities to improve quality, consistency, and responsible resource utilization.
• Partner with pharmacists, physicians, nursing professionals, operational leaders, and other stakeholders across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Support medication management initiatives affecting ambulatory clinics, infusion centers, and Hematology/Oncology services.
• Lead multiple concurrent projects while maintaining clear communication, dependable follow-through, and alignment among stakeholders.
• Apply clinical pharmacy expertise to complex questions that may affect care delivery across multiple departments.
• Build trusted relationships and become a strategic resource for medication utilization, governance, and implementation.

This role follows a Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule. Initial training and orientation are conducted onsite to support successful integration into UVA Health systems, workflows, and committee structures. After demonstrated competency and independence, the position transitions to a hybrid work arrangement.

Pharmacists with strong health-system, inpatient, ambulatory, clinical specialty, medication utilization, drug information, formulary, informatics-adjacent, or operational improvement experience may find this role especially compelling. Infusion or Hematology/Oncology experience is valuable but not required for a pharmacist who brings clinical depth, adaptability, project leadership, and a commitment to responsible medication stewardship.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required.

Experience: No experience required. PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred.

Licensure: Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or within 60 days of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $64.37 - $87.33 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
