Job summary

Compass Oncology, part of The US Oncology Network, is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to oversee oncology pharmaceutical care, with emphasis on safety, efficacy, and collaboration with clinicians.

The role requires a Pharm.D. or B.S. in Pharmacy, Oregon licensure, BCOP or eligibility within 3 years, and 5+ years of pharmacy experience in oncology or related fields. This full-time position is based in Tigard, Oregon, with travel between clinics as needed.

Pharmacy services, especially in oncology, are rapidly developing with many new therapies being approved for management of cancers. They are also the catalyst for changes in the requirements and standards regarding oncology care. Compass Oncology is looking for a Clinical Pharmacist to join our team, and help our practice stay on the cutting edge of cancer care and research. Managing the patients receiving these therapies requires finely honed skills in order to optimize safety and efficacy. A pharmacist with over 5 years of experience including leadership and project management will find success in this role. Oncology experience is a must.

Salary Range

$134,735.00- $191,895.00 salaried

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise as well as internal employee equity considerations.

JOB SCOPE

Oversees pharmaceutical care plans in designated specialty areas or product lines, including initial patient evaluations, development of care plans, and ensuring treatment plans are carried out.

Ensures ongoing review of patient clinical status. Recommends adjustments to drug therapy based on clinical status and treatment outcomes. Coordinates with clinical providers to ensure all aspects of pharmaceutical care are delivered safely and timely. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial patient evaluations and work-ups related to disease status and anticipated prescribed therapy.
• Collect, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data relevant to patient therapy. Obtain histories and other patient data to optimize drug therapy and nutritional support management, maximizing comprehension of medication administration and side effects.
• Establish therapeutic objectives and monitor patients for desired therapeutic outcomes. Evaluate the significance of signs and symptoms relative to disease processes and recommend modifications in drug therapy.
• Detect and evaluate the clinical importance of adverse reactions and complications associated with drug therapy. Provide counseling and answer questions from patients, family, and healthcare professionals concerning drug therapy.
• Maintain active involvement with clinicians in the development and implementation of a standard drug order format and ordering process.
• Maintain thorough and appropriate documentation in the patient clinical chart of physician orders and communication with other healthcare professionals.
• Coordinate with physician staff and service providers in planning and implementing patient care plans to ensure safe and timely delivery of drug therapy.
• Review and perform QA checks on all new and repeat medication orders. May prepare or supervise the preparation and dispensing of drug therapy according to Company policies and procedures.
• Present training and in-service programs as necessary.
• Provide educational initiatives for patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
• Participate in policy development, advocacy, and institutional committees.
• Review and recommend treatment plans in the EMR.
• May supervise the activity of Pharmacy Technicians.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor of Science from an accredited school of pharmacy, Pharm. D.
• Pharmacy licensure (Licensed Registered Pharmacist) Oregon required. Oregon & Washington licensing preferred.
• Current BCOP (Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist) or eligible to complete within 3 years of hire preferred.

Experience/Training

• (2) years of experience as registered pharmacist, with experience in oncology or other specialty preferred.
• Strong clinical oncology pharmacy knowledge & experience.
• Experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal, collaborative, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to professionalism and dedicated desire to advance patient care.
• Experience in outpatient oncology and integrated practice associated retail pharmacy preferred.
• Flexibility to travel between clinics as needed, requiring reliable transportation.
