Job summary

Harris Health System seeks a Clinical Pharmacist to join the Ben Taub Hospital pharmacy team for a full-time evening shift. You will deliver patient-centered pharmacotherapy, conduct clinical reviews, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes.

You will also support education, promote financial stewardship, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy required
  • Doctor of Pharmacy preferred
  • Texas Pharmacist License or eligibility; must obtain licensure within 90 days
  • BLS within 90 days of employment
  • ACLS certification required for inpatient positions within 6 months
  • IV Sterile Certification required for inpatient areas
  • Texas Pharmacist Preceptor Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive, relevant pharmacy experience
  • For inpatient positions: 2 years of experience in inpatient hospital setting if no residency
  • Completion of a PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency highly preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication; ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of medication therapy management, analytical/problem-solving, math, medical terminology, research, statistics, design, MS Word

About the Position

Harris Health is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to join the pharmacy team at Ben Taub Hospital for a full-time evening shift.


In this role, you will deliver direct, patient-centered pharmacy care by managing medication therapy, conducting comprehensive clinical reviews, and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize therapeutic outcomes. You will help ensure safe medication distribution, regulatory compliance, and appropriate medication use throughout the hospital.


The Clinical Pharmacist also supports education for patients and healthcare professionals, promotes financial stewardship, integrates technology into pharmacy practice, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety and operational efficiency.

Requirements


  • Education



    • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy required


    • Doctor of Pharmacy preferred




  • Licensure and Certifications



    • Texas Pharmacist License or eligibility for Texas Pharmacist licensure; must obtain licensure within 90 days of employment


    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of employment


    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from an American Heart Association-accredited course required for inpatient positions before or within 6 months of employment


    • IV Sterile Certification required for all inpatient areas and Fondren Pharmacy


    • Texas Pharmacist Preceptor Certification preferred




  • Experience



    • Minimum of 2 years of progressive, relevant pharmacy experience


    • For inpatient positions: 2 years of progressive, relevant experience in an inpatient hospital setting required when no residency has been completed


    • Completion of a PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency highly preferred
