Job description

Overview

The Clinical Paramedic reports to the ED Manager and assists in performing delegated patient care activities, including activities of daily and basic nursing care procedures and other competencies required in the assigned patient care unit.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborative management of patient needs and care interventions as delegated by RN or Physician.
  • Review patient information for pertinent history and physical findings.
  • Monitor patient vital signs: temperature, pulse, BP, RR, oximetry, CO₂ waveform.
  • Assess and evaluate data including patient diagnosis, diagnostic test results, and response to care/treatment.
  • Assess behavioral, developmental, cultural, and educational responses/needs.
  • Administer medication safely and document accurately.
  • Perform venipuncture, laboratory procedures, IV placement, and lethal rhythm interpretation and intervention.
  • Monitor heart rhythm patterns and notify RN/physician of changes.
  • Detect and notify RN/other personnel immediately in life‑threatening conditions.
  • Prepare patient for transport and interventions with appropriate equipment.
  • Transport stable patients as delegated by physician and/or RN.
  • Explain all care procedures to patient/family prior to performing the care.
  • Evaluate patient response to interventions and inform RN & Physician of pertinent changes.
  • Develop a clinical knowledge base appropriate to the populations served.
  • Advocate, protect, and support patient rights and family decision‑making.
  • Prepare rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgery/treatment; assist in treatment as assigned.
  • Perform clerical duties: computerized order entry, coordinate care with Ancillary departments, coding and billing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Keep white boards in areas updated.
  • Utilize AIDET communication framework.
  • Comply with no‑pass rule: call lights and phones.
Requirements
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal, and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Punctuality; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification and badge on duty.
  • Attends department in‑services.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships with physicians, departments, and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive, professional manner.
  • Addresses issues directly with relevant parties and seeks solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with policies on department operations, fire, safety, and infection control.
  • Complies with policies on ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the hospital’s mission, vision, ethics, goals, and core values.
Education/License Requirements

High School graduate or equivalent. Current paramedic license.

Experience

Minimum of one year as a Clinical Paramedic.

Language Skills

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages encouraged.

Working Conditions
