Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Clinical Operations Manager for Surgery to lead strategic initiatives, build high-performing teams, and improve patient outcomes. The role blends clinical experience with modern leadership to translate priorities into safe, efficient perioperative care.

This onsite, Monday–Friday role requires prior people leadership and OR experience. You will oversee a 24/7 unit, guide nursing practice, and partner with surgeons and anesthesia leadership to advance

Qualifications

  • Requires a BSN in nursing.
  • MSN may be required if the bachelor's is not in nursing.
  • Master's in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Specialty nursing leadership certification preferred.
  • Active RN license in Indiana or NLC RN license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by the AHA.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an interprofessional team to achieve quality and safety outcomes.
  • Provide strategic vision and operational planning for the assigned unit.
  • Ensure 24 x 7 operational staffing including weekends and holidays.
  • Advocate for evidence-based nursing practice.

Clinical Operations Manager- Surgery

Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Surgery Administration leadership team in the role of Clinical Operations Manager.

The clinical manager of operations combines clinical experience and contemporary leadership practices with the IU Health Way to achieve excellent outcomes. Accountable for translating and achieving our strategic priorities and outcomes: quality and safety improvements, care affordability, great patient experiences, and great team member experiences. Accountable for providing strategic vision and operational planning for assigned unit. Incumbents will lead an interprofessional team to create an environment where the team is empowered to achieve excellence in patient and organizational outcomes. This role is accountable for advancing nursing practice by advocating and consistently embedding evidenced-base practices and professional nursing standards. Provides oversight of unit that is operational and staffed 24 x 7, weekends, and holidays.

This is a fully onsite role Monday-Friday day shift at University Hospital with availability to round to evenings and weekends, as well as on call responsibilities. Candidates should have previous people leadership experience as well as OR experience.

Reports to: Administrative Director- Perioperative Services and Surgery

Direct Reports: 100

Key Relationships: Surgeon and Anesthesia Leadership

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Requires a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN).
  • If bachelor degree not in nursing, must have Master of Nursing (MSN).
  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Specialty certification related to nursing practice or leadership is preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Required Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
