Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls is seeking a PRN Dietitian in the final year of the Dietetics/Nutrition program. You will provide nutritional care under supervision, perform screenings, assess risk, and help tailor patient menus.

This PRN daytime role offers flexible hours and opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include nutrition screening, evaluations, care plan development, education for patients and families, and precise EMR documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs nutrition screening and refers high-risk patients to dietitians.
  • Performs nutrition evaluations for low/moderate risk patients.
  • Develops and implements individualized nutrition care plans.
  • Evaluates and revises care plans based on patient progress.
  • Provides nutrition education to patients and families.
  • Documents patient responses in the EMR.
  • Assists patients with menu choices.

A Brief Overview

Provides nutritional care to assigned patient under the supervision of a registered, licensed dietitian. Is responsible for the screening and identifying patient at nutritional risk, evaluating patients at low or moderate nutritional risk and assist with patient menu modifications.

What you will do
  • Performs nutrition screening in a timely manner and refers high risk patients to dietitians.
  • Performs an accurate nutrition evaluation in a timely manner for low and moderate risk patients including but not limited to: obtaining information in terms of the patient’s nutritional needs and as appropriate refers patients to dietitians.
  • Develops and implements an individualized outcomes based on nutritional care plan for assigned patients specific to patient needs with clearly defined, measurable goals.
  • Evaluates patient’s responses to nutritional care. Revises care plan and goals as necessary to achieve desired outcomes. Consults with dietitians as needed and/or refers patients to dietitians as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide nutrition education to assigned patients/family based on evaluation of needs.
  • Documents patient’s responses to nutritional care in the EMR, in a complete and concise manner.
  • Maintains accurate patient database.
  • Accurately calculates intake for patients on calorie counts as assigned. Documents intake in medical record in a timely manner.
  • Assists patients with menu choices as needed.

  • Currently enrolled in final year of Dietetics/Nutrition program
