Position Summary

To be fully engaged in providing Uncompromised Safety, Superior Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Financial Stewardship by coordinating all phases of nutrition care including providing nutrition assessments in their area of specialty, making the nutrition diagnosis, developing appropriate interventions, monitoring and evaluating outcomes, and providing appropriate pharmacotherapy recommendations. Must also counsel clients/patients and conduct community events and staff training. Must performs duties in support of and in compliance with performance improvement plans, TJC and other licensing, accreditation, and regulatory agencies.

Primary Accountabilities

• Generates appropriate nutrition care plans to meet the unique needs of patients with complex conditions.
• Provides nutrition care on a regular basis in one or more areas of specialty and assist other members of the healthcare team as needed in their area of specialty.
• Conducts community events, oversees support groups, leads in the development and implementation of community activities as needed.
• Provide outpatient nutrition counseling to patients with advanced medical problems in area specialty.
• Understands theoretical strategies related to behavior change and is able to identify and implement appropriate actions designed to change nutrition-related behavior, risk factors, environmental condition, or other aspect of health status of clients.
• Works with committees and performs chart audits to continuously evaluate and improve the quality and effectiveness of practice.
• Interprets public health trends, performs audits and evaluates data to proactively develop programs and standards in area of specialty.
• Assists in staff training, provide multi-disciplinary in-services and precepting of student interns.
• Associate supports superior quality through adherence to the I-CARE commitments.
• Manage parenteral nutrition.
• Insert nasoenteric feeding tubes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Four-year college degree with additional internship or graduate experience
• Licensure:
• Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
• Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the state of Florida
• Certification:
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• And must have one of the following:
• Commission on Dietetic Registration Board Certified Specialist
• Clinical Nutrition Support Clinician
• Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist
• Board Certified Bariatric Counselor
• Work Experience: Two years’ experience as a Registered Dietitian in an acute care hospital or two years working as an outpatient dietitian
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to evaluate body composition and conduct a nutrition focused physical assessment using available diagnostic tools and interpret information.
• Meet Clinical Dietitian Competency Assessment/Skills Checklist requirements for specialty within three months of hire and maintain annually.
• Meet Competency Assessment/Skills Checklist to place feeding tubes and manage parenteral nutrition within three months of hire and maintain ongoing competency.
• Critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate data and share outcomes for strategic planning.
• Ability to assess NICU patients and achieve board certification as a pediatric critical care nutrition specialist (CPSCC)

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Master’s degree
• Work Experience: Three years clinical experience

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for up to 8 hours.
• Ability to work extended and flexible hours in various locations.
• Proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and documenting in electronic medical records.
• Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to speak, write and understand the English language clearly and fluently.
