Mercy Health in Boardman, Ohio (St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital) seeks a Clinical Nursing Student to gain hands-on patient care experience under the guidance of a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting. You will assist with basic nursing tasks, document vital signs, and support the care team while developing critical thinking and professional skills.

Current enrollment in a nursing program and completion of at least one clinical rotation are required; HS/GED is required. BLS is preferred.

Qualifications

Clinical Nursing Student - St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital

Job Summary: The Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN.

Essential Functions:

• Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process.
• Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery
• Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking
• Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse
• Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees
• Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated
• Participates in patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition)
• Performs basic patient hygiene and care related to activities of daily living - assisting with ambulation and patient mobility, feeding, hydration and nutrition and bowel and bladder elimination
• Utilizes clinical technology as applicable
• Escalates concerns appropriately through appropriate chain of command

Education:

HS/GED (required)

Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

BLS (preferred)

Experience:

Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred)

Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team

• Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (i.e. falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care)
