Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking a PACU nurse to provide direct patient care in a high-acuity surgical setting at Plaza West Tower. The role supports fast-paced trauma and specialized recovery for ICU-level patients, emphasizing critical thinking and compassionate care.

Both traditional PACU care and ICU-level recovery are offered, with night and call shifts, opportunities for professional growth, and a signing bonus as part of the comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Nursing Diploma or Associate’s degree required.
• Active RN license required.
• Bachelor’s degree with nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care in PACU including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Educates patients and families on post-anesthesia care and discharge needs.
• Promotes patient safety and participates in professional development.
• Documents care plans collaboratively with the interprofessional team.

Position Highlights:

• Plaza West Tower PACU
  • 90 beds
  • 3/12 hour night shifts
  • Monday-Friday 1900-0730
• Diverse, high acuity patient population includes neuro, transplants, orthopedic, ENT, cardiac, vascular, thoracic, trauma and spine

• 24 hours of call (3-8 hour shifts) per 6 week schedule
  • 2 day call shifts 1200-2030/1400-2230
  • 1 night call shift 2230-0700

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
