Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager to supervise nursing services on designated units, ensuring safe, efficient care. You will lead Nursing staff, coordinate patient care, and partner with Nurse Managers to meet clinical and quality goals.

The role requires nursing licensure in the assigned state, 2+ years of experience (5+ preferred), and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved school of nursing is required.
• BS or MSN preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
• Five (5) years of relevant experience preferred.
• Demonstrated management potential is required.
• Proficient clinical skills are required.

This position is an important part of the Management Team and the responsibilities for the position include: assigning, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for the assigned unit(s). This position is evaluated on the basis of objective measurable criteria, including maximizing the personal abilities and competence of staff nurses, licensed practical nurses and other personnel assigned to the unit(s) for which the Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Management

• Develop, implement and evaluate unit(s) goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards of care which contribute to the achievement of unit objectives.
• Oversee and coordinate the activities and job duties of assigned unit personnel to achieve quality outcomes, customer/patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with fiscal budgets.
• Incorporate total quality management concepts into unit operations.
• Maintain proficiency with applicable technologies to permit informed recommendations regarding new services, products, and equipment.
• Attend management meetings and participate in formulating management and supervisory personnel policies and procedures.

Staffing & Personnel Management

• Assign work to staff nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, nursing service clerks, monitor technicians, and other personnel as necessary to meet patient care objectives.
• Ensure continuity of patient care by planning staff assignments through evaluation of personnel competency, education, and training in relation to patient care needs.
• Interview, select, evaluate, discipline, and terminate unit personnel, or recommend such action as necessary, consistent with Community policies and procedures.
• Assure that assigned employees receive proper orientation and attend required in-service training to maintain licensure and certification requirements.
• Maintain personnel records and related information as required.
• Develop work schedules for assigned unit(s), including vacation, leaves of absence, call‑in, call‑off, and other time off requirements.
• Responsibly direct and supervise all labor relations activities within assigned unit(s).

Communication & Collaboration

• Develop effective communication between unit personnel, physicians, and other Community employees to assure continuity, coordination, and collaboration in delivering appropriate healthcare services.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of area, department, and unit budgets.
• Prepare routine and special reports and other required documents.

Clinical Leadership

• Apply advanced clinical knowledge and serve as a role model and resource to staff.
• Perform direct patient care as necessary.

Patient Care Oversight

• Direct, oversee, and assist in the delivery of patient care within assigned unit(s).
• Assist in cases of emergency.
• Train new, inexperienced, and current personnel through instruction and demonstration of safe and proper working procedures.
• Assist assigned personnel in the performance of tasks when requested.
• Assist assigned personnel in correcting, adjusting, or controlling new equipment during installation or testing periods.
• Assist assigned personnel in meeting patient care requirements where undue delay would interrupt safe patient care until additional assistance is available.
• Fill in for assigned personnel to avoid interruption in safe patient care until additional staff are available.
• Perform or assist in the performance of clinical treatments, procedures, and total patient care requiring expert skills and judgment in accordance with established standards.
• Perform duties related to patient care not otherwise assigned to the bargaining unit.
