Job Description:

The Registered Professional Nurse assesses, coordinates, plans, directs, implements, and manages the needs of surgical patients throughout the episode of care, focusing on progress toward discharge and transitions within the acute care stay. The surgical nurse advocates for patients during procedures and ensures the delivery and coordination of patient care by the caregiving team. The role involves providing compassionate, competent care to patients in inpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Implement physician orders, administer medications to the sterile field, and document as required by organizational policies and regulations.
2. Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to care.
3. Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care decisions.
4. Guide ancillary personnel and maintain professional nursing standards.
5. Act as the patient advocate in the surgical setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of a professional nursing program (Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Degree preferred).
• Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); CNOR certification preferred.
