Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Clinical Nurse (USC) for long-term assignments across UMMS inpatient, procedural, surgical and ambulatory settings. You will join the Staffing Center as an internal resource, deploying to units based on need and validated competencies.

You will perform direct and indirect nursing care, lead patient assessments, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, administer medications, document in the EMR, and support safety and quality initiatives

Qualifications

• Current and active unencumbered RN license in Maryland or eligibility through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).
• ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required based on unit-specific competencies.
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience within the past 12 months.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care appropriate to the patient population and acuity of the assigned unit.
• Independently performs comprehensive patient assessments, implements nursing and medical interventions, evaluates patient responses, and documents care in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with patients, families, charge nurses, nurse managers, and interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity, safety, and quality of care.
• Safely administers medications and utilizes clinical equipment and technology in accordance with policy and validated competency.
• Delegates and supervises nursing care activities consistent with the Nurse Practice Act, organizational policy, and individual competency levels.
• Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and effective communication when transitioning between units and clinical settings.
• Adheres to evidence-based practice, regulatory standards, and organizational policies to promote patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Identifies, reports, and takes appropriate action related to patient safety risks, adverse events, and near misses.
• Supports unit operations and staffing needs, including performing charge or other unit-based roles as appropriate and within validated competencies.
• Participates in quality improvement, performance improvement, and patient safety initiatives as applicable.
• Maintains current RN licensure, required certifications, and validated competencies necessary for assigned clinical settings.
• Completes all required organizational, regulatory, and annual education.
• Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical competence.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience - Required

• Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience within the past 12 months.
