BJC HealthCare's affiliated Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking an RN to provide direct patient care and contribute to chemotherapy, pain management and supportive therapies.

The role emphasizes education, safety and collaborative care for acute hematology/oncology patients in a Magnet-designated environment. Minimum Nursing Diploma/Associate's, RN license required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Parent institutions Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine also are nationally recognized, with U.S.News & World Report consistently ranking the hospital and medical school among the nation's elite. The team on 8900 provides chemotherapy, pain management, support of radiation interventions, infusion of blood products, administration of blood products and hydration. Infusion of fresh and frozen hematopoietic cell transplant products (peripheral blood stem cells/bone marrow). Telemetry, hemodynamic, ventilator, and dialysis support. Supportive care for hematopoietic cell transplant and leukemia patients. Patients are moderate to high acuity with a high complexity of interventions and patient care needs including clinical, spiritual, psycho-social, and family care.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.


• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.


• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.


• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
