  • Maintain compliance with trauma designation requirements.
  • Monitor trauma patient care across pre-hospital to discharge; coordinate transfers and follow-up.
  • Oversee trauma program in collaboration with TMD and hospital administration.
  • Assist with trauma program budget and develop clinical protocols.
  • Provide staff education and ensure PI activities are conducted.

Education

BSN preferred
Current State of Texas RN license
3 years trauma patient care experience
5 years trauma experience preferred
ACS/ATC trauma certifications (CEN, CPEN, CCRN, TNCC) preferred
ACLS, PALS, ENPC required within 12 months of hire
TOPIC course within 12 months
Trauma Program Manager/ATS or TTCF course within 12 months
Abbreviated Injury Scale course (AAAM)
ICD-10 in Trauma; renewal every 5 years
Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist Certification preferred
12 hours trauma CE yearly (36 hours per 3-year cycle)
Membership in a trauma organization within 3 months

Job Description

The Trauma Program and Clinical Manager (TPM) is a Registered Nurse who in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director and hospital administration is responsible for oversight and authority of the Trauma Program as defined by the level of trauma designation. The TPM is also responsible for the management and oversight of employees within the Trauma Services Department. This role shall be filled with 1.0 FTE who is committed to the trauma program and who can fulfill the TPM responsibilities.

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full Time, Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  • Maintain requirements of trauma designation.
  • Responsible for monitoring trauma patient care throughout the continuum of care, from pre-hospital management to trauma activation, inpatient admission, and transfer or discharge, to include transfer follow up as appropriate.
  • Responsible in conjunction with the TMD and/or hospital administration
  • Oversight of the trauma program
  • Assist with the budgetary process for the trauma program
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols and practice management guidelines
  • Provide educational opportunities for staff development
  • Monitor performance improvement activities in conjunction with a PI coordinator (where applicable)
  • Serve as a liaison to administration and represent the trauma program on hospitaland regional committees to enhance trauma care
  • Have oversight of the trauma registry
  • Goal Setting for the benefit of the trauma program and its patients.
  • Co-chairs the Trauma Operations Committee with the Trauma Medical Director.
  • Responsible for implementation, approval, and review of the Trauma Performance
  • Improvement Plan (PIPS).
  • Assumes day-to-day responsibility for process and PI activities as they relate to nursin and ancillary personnel involved in the care of trauma patients.
  • Participates or assign designee from trauma program to participate in regional and/or statewide trauma systems. (eg. Regional Advisory Council, )
  • Participates in Hospital Wide Disaster Management Planning Committee.
  • Participates in 2 disaster Management drills or activations annually.
  • Oversees and participates in community outreach and trauma injury prevention.
  • Participates or assign designee from trauma program as an active member in Hospital
  • Wide Nurse Staffing Committee.
  • Reviews and upholds all relevant updates from American College of Surgeons (ACS) on TPM responsibilities and authority.
  • Assure front-line staff are competent and is committed to professional practice standards.
  • Create and sustain a culture that supports staff to do their best work. Be skilled communicators, team builders, agents for positive change, committed to service, results oriented and role models for collaborative practice.
  • Being visible and constantly communicating with the front-line staff.
  • Maintain departmental clinical manager responsibilities and expectations to include service excellence initiatives, people, finance, and clinical observations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
  • 3 years of experience in clinical care of the trauma patients required, 5 years preferred.
  • Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, TNS) preferred.
  • ACLS, PALS, ENPC and TNCC required within 12 months of hire and must be maintained.
  • Must complete the following courses within 12 months of hire:
  • Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC)
  • Trauma Program Manager Course by the American Trauma Society (ATS) or the Texas Trauma Designation Education Course by the Texas Trauma Coordinators Forum (TTCF).
  • Abbreviated Injury Scale course by the Association for the Advancement of Automative Medicine (AAAM).
  • ICD-10 course in Trauma; needs to be renewed every 5 years.
  • Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist Certification, preferred
  • Shall obtain/maintain evidence of 12 hours of trauma related Continuing Education every 12 months (Must have 36 hours for each 3-year verification cycle).
  • Must obtain and maintain current membership in a national or regional trauma organization within 3 months of hire.
