Job description

HCEPInc. is seeking a Clinical Manager for a full-time permanent employment position based in Portland, OR.

This position is full-time and on-site, supporting clinical operations across multiple outpatient specialty clinic locations in the Portland/Tualatin area. The primary focus will be providing consistent clinical leadership and management coverage while traveling between locations based on operational needs. The position may occasionally require weekend availability for staff education or in-service training.

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is approximately $90,000-$110,000, depending on related qualifications, clinical experience, and credentials.

Essential Functions:

• Provide hands-on, visible leadership and day-to-day management of clinical staff across assigned clinic locations.
• Manage and support Medical Assistants, including attendance, performance, conduct, productivity, and adherence to established policies and expectations.
• Address employee performance and attendance concerns promptly, professionally, and consistently, including appropriate coaching and performance improvement measures.
• Partner effectively with physicians and other clinical leaders while maintaining appropriate management authority and accountability.
• Promote a positive, collaborative workplace culture focused on communication, teamwork, accountability, employee engagement, and retention.
• Support the onboarding, training, integration, and ongoing development of new and existing clinical employees.
• Provide staff education and coordinate occasional weekend in-service training as needed.
• Monitor staffing levels and assist with clinical coverage during periods of short staffing or increased operational demand.
• Provide direct Medical Assistant support and step into clinical operations when necessary.
• Travel between multiple Portland-area clinic locations based on operational and staffing needs.
• Develop strong working relationships with physicians, clinical staff, leadership, and other business partners.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect confidential employee, patient, and management information.
• Identify opportunities to improve clinical workflows, staff communication, employee performance, and overall clinic operations.
• Support organizational initiatives and serve as a positive and professional representative of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience managing Medical Assistants and/or outpatient clinical teams.
• Strong knowledge of Medical Assistant responsibilities, clinical workflows, and day-to-day ambulatory clinic operations.
• Previous leadership or management experience within an outpatient, ambulatory, procedural, or similar clinical environment.
• Demonstrated experience addressing employee attendance, performance, conduct, and accountability concerns.
• Ability to professionally manage difficult employee conversations and implement performance improvement strategies.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to establish clear expectations, maintain appropriate boundaries, and hold employees accountable.
• Ability to develop positive working relationships with physicians while effectively advocating for operational and staffing requirements.
• Ability to lead and support teams through change, staffing challenges, and periods of increased operational demand.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability and willingness to provide hands‑on clinical support when needed.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and management information.
• Ability and willingness to travel between multiple Portland‑area clinic locations based on operational needs.

Preferred:

• Previous experience working as a Medical Assistant or equivalent hands‑on ambulatory clinical experience.
• Previous experience managing Medical Assistant teams.
• Experience improving employee engagement, retention, accountability, and team culture within a challenging clinical environment.
• Experience successfully onboarding and integrating new employees into established clinical teams.
• Experience working in a procedural outpatient or specialty medical practice.
• Previous experience within a specialty healthcare environment.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure is welcomed but not required.
