The University of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applications for a part-time Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Nursing at the Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The lecturer will teach and supervise clinical groups across Medical-Surgical, Pediatric, Maternal Child, Mental Health and Public Health settings at on-site and off-site clinical agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and supervising a clinical group of students at the clinical sites for the Department of Nursing.
  • Specialties include Medical-Surgical, Pediatric (Skillslab/Simulation labs only), Maternal Child Care, Mental Health and Public Health.
  • Provide supervision and teaching to a cohort of clinical students in the clinical setting with a focus on patient safety.
  • Flexible with student learning experiences based on patient availability and agency staff for alternate placement.
  • Utilize Active Learning Teaching Strategies and inform students of their progress through evaluations.
  • Work as part of a team with Lead Faculty and peer Clinical Lecturers and keep Lead Faculty abreast of student progression.

Pay Range

$50 per contact hour, plus differential fornight and/or weekend shifts. This position is Exempt from the FairLabor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Because this appointment is temporary in nature, you will not beeligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided tofaculty under the standard University of Coloradobenefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paidvacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you areeligible to accrue sick leave at 0.034 hours of sick leave per hourworked.

Summary

The Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and HealthSciences at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs willestablish and maintain a pool of Lecturers from which futureappointments to temporary, non-tenure track positions will be made.Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time), usually for onlyone course/lab section, and made on a semester-by-semester.

The position is responsible for teaching and supervising a clinicalgroup of students at the clinical sites for the Department ofNursing. Specialties include Medical-Surgical, Pediatric (Skillslab/Simulation labs only), Maternal Child Care, Mental Health andPublic Health.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but arenot limited to:

  • The primary role of the Clinical Lecturer is to provide directsupervision and teaching to a cohort of clinical students in theclinical setting with a focus on patient safety
    • Clinical hours will vary depending on class. Range from 7 hoursonce or twice per week to 12 hours twice per week for a duration of8 to 16 weeks
    • Commits to teaching all scheduled clinicals for the assignedclass
  • Provides advanced communication to Lead Faculty when anemergency arises which conflicts with attending clinical
  • Selects and schedules student learning experiences to meetcourse and clinical objectives, links theory to clinical
    • Flexible with student learning experience based on patientavailability; works with agency staff for alternate placement
    • Creative in use of alternate learning experiences which supportmeeting clinical objectives
    • Arranges and leads pre and post conferences with eachclinical
  • Utilizes Active Learning Teaching Strategies
  • Informs students of their progress through formative andsummative evaluations
    • Provide feedback in a supportive way
    • Completes evaluation of class assignments in a timelymanner
    • Completes student evaluations in a timely manner
  • Works as part of a team; collaborates with Lead Faculty andpeer Clinical Lecturers
    • Keeps Lead Faculty abrest of student progression in meetingclinical objectives
    • Holds students accountable to follow program policies
  • Aids student development of clinical reasoning and clinicaljudgment skills through the consistent use of the NCSBN ClinicalJudgment framework
  • Collaborates with agency leadership to promote positiverelationships
    • Brings any concerns/conflicts tot eh attention of Lead Facultyand Clinical Coordinator in a timely manner
  • Maintains professional awareness of current trends in thediscipline of nursing and nursing education
  • Attends team meetings and biannual staff developmenttraining
  • Must be able to frequently move and have long periods ofstanding and walking, perform moderate bending and have fine motorskills. Must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 50pounds
Tentative Search Timeline

This is an evergreen Clinical Lecturer Pool for the NursingDepartment in the Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and HealthSciences at UCCS. Applications will be reviewed on asemester-by-semester basis as business needs arise.
