Job summary

LabCorp is seeking a PRN Clinical Lab Technologist to join our microbiology team at Ascension St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN. The role includes per diem hours with weekend coverage and variable start/end times.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a relevant science or an MLS degree, and 1 year of clinical lab testing experience. Preferred MLS/plate reading experience and ASCP/AMT certification.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• MLS degree or ASCP/AMT certification is preferred.
• 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.

• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.

• Maintain a safe work environment and proper PPE.

Job description

LabCorp is seeking a PRN Clinical Lab Technologist to join our microbiology team at Ascension St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Work Schedule

Per Diem/PRN position; hours will be “as needed” with start and end times varying. Availability to cover weekends as needed between 5:30AM–4:00PM.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• 1year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• Or an MLS degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1year or more clinical microbiology MLS experience.
• 1year or more plate reading and gram staining experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification.

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non‑traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet the education requirement.
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers.
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
