Job summary

Labcorp in Mobile, AL is seeking a Grossing Technologist Trainee to join our histology team. Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with responsibilities in grossing, description, and section preparation for pathologist review.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a chemical/biological science or related field, plus early experience in clinical lab testing and grossing. Certification and strong attention to detail are preferred for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• 3 months or more of grossing experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides.
• Specialize in the accurate gross description and dissection of surgical specimens.
• Diagram pertinent gross specimens as necessary.
• Prepare sections of human tissue for pathologist diagnostic study.
• Operate laboratory instruments to properly display specimens.
• Perform equipment maintenance as needed.
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner.
• Comply with applicable safety procedures and protocol.
• Effectively communicate with histology team members.

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
