The University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 for the Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing Services Team at Harborview Medical Center. The role supports specimen processing, phlebotomy, and excellent patient service to aid timely and accurate diagnostics.

The position emphasizes teamwork, training of new staff, and compliance with accreditation standards.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent with 1 year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
  • OR completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen processing activities including receiving, sorting, prioritizing, and matching specimens to requisitions.
  • Centrifuging and aliquoting specimens and processing timed urine collections.
  • Perform phlebotomy by venipuncture and capillary collection on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Provide direct patient care and respond to inquiries with professional customer service.
  • Orient and train new employees and support accreditation standards; help with performance improvement.

Whatyou’llcontribute:

Perform Specimen Processing Activities | Perform specimen processing tasks such as receiving, sorting, and prioritizing specimens and requests, matching specimens against requisitions forappropriate tubetype, centrifuging and aliquoting specimens, processing timed urine collections,resultingand reviewing entries for all reference lab testing, and performing various computer functions.

_Perform Phlebotomy Activities_| Provide direct patient care by performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection on inpatients and outpatients of all ages.

_Perform Customer Service_| Exercise your customer service skills by responding promptly, courteously, and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff. Instruct patients on proper collection of urine specimens.

Share Your Knowledge | Impart your laboratory wisdom by orienting and training new employees,participatein performance improvement activities and support the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CLIA, and CAP accreditation standards.

Utilize Problem-Solving Skills | Resolve specimen and order-related problems ina timely, thorough, andaccuratemanner and provideappropriate documentationfor supervisor review.

Whatyou’llneed:
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience

OR

  • Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology

OR

  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Additionaldepartmentrequirement:
  • Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification with the Washington State Department of Health ORobtainthe MA-P certification within180 daysof start date.
Desired qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in science
  • Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory
  • Experience with a Laboratory Information System (LIS)
