Job summary

Labcorp in Mobile, AL is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team. You will determine specimen acceptability, perform routine and complex procedures, and monitor instrumentation to ensure accurate results that support patient care.

Qualifications include an Associate’s degree in a chemical or biological science, plus 3+ months of lab testing experience and ASCP/AMT certification options. The role requires independence, teamwork, and strong computer and LIS skills; flexibility for

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; CLIA standards may allow non-traditional degrees with science credits.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in a high-volume laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Proficient with computers and LIS familiarity.
  • High attention to detail with strong communication and organizational skills; color vision ability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex procedures per SOPs.
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure functionality.
  • Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate test results to support patient care.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear PPE.

Job description

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team in Mobile, AL. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday with rotating weekends, 3:00PM-11:30PM

Job Responsibilities
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • ASCP or AMT certification

  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non‑traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
