Job summary

USPI South Texas Specialty Hospital is seeking a motivated Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. We perform outpatient surgical procedures in Orthopedic, Spine, with 25 beds, 8 OR rooms, and 3 ER rooms.

The role requires a two- or four-year laboratory science degree, ASCP registration, and 1–2 years of lab or hospital experience. Proficiency in Excel, data reporting, phlebotomy, and color vision is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in laboratory science required or equivalent.
• Registered with ASCP or equivalent.
• 1–2 years experience in a lab or hospital setting preferred.
• Experience with Point of Care Testing preferred.
• Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies/standards.
• Strong communication and patient-facing skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain data reports in Excel.
• Ability to detect color changes and perform phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Performs correlation studies, linearity checks, and QC to ensure CLIA, TJC, and CAP compliance.
• Analyzes and summarizes test results and submits to Lab Manager for review.
• Maintains machines and reagents, orders supplies, and tracks maintenance needs.
• Performs troubleshooting as needed.
• Recommends supplies/equipment to enhance the program.
