Job summary

Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS/Med Tech) to join our dedicated lab team. This full-time evening-shift role supports diagnostic testing across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank disciplines.

The CLS I will perform waived to highly complex tests, ensure quality control, maintain instrument performance, and document results in the LIS, contributing to accurate patient care under CLIA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or CLIA-required education.
• ASCP certification or equivalent preferred for the role.
• Current and valid state license if the state requires it.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology and related disciplines.
• Adhere to CLIA requirements and hospital policies for accuracy and safety in testing.
• Maintain laboratory records and input results into the laboratory information system.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• In the absence of a supervisor, lead the section during the shift as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA

ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred
