Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Laboratory Quality Assurance professional to coordinate and review quality management records within the Laboratory. This role oversees the document control system, proficiency testing, and the operation of the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program, ensuring rapid and accurate test results.

The position requires 4 years of general lab experience, MLS/CLT/MT certification or eligibility, and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• Must have high school or GED diploma.
• Baccalaureate degree with minimum science coursework (chemistry, biology, math).
• Registration as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS/CLT/CLS) or eligible and must pass certification within twelve months.
• 4 years of general laboratory experience.
• Must have computer knowledge and manual dexterity; maintain patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program and participates in the hospital QA program.
• Coordinates Laboratory proficiency testing programs.
• Guides on QA issues including inspections by AABB, CAP, FDA, and DNV.
• Reviews accrediting agency requirements and guidelines for compliance.
• Performs QA duties under lab leadership and participates in QA committees and activities.
• Manages QA budget including accreditation expenses.
• Conducts monthly QA meetings on quality assurance topics.
• Oversees document control for lab policies and procedures.
• Oversees the incident review process for the laboratory.

Job Summary

Coordinates and reviews quality management records within the Laboratory, oversees and coordinates the document control system in the Laboratory, oversees proficiency testing, and is responsible for the organization, implementation, and operation of the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program. Performs a variety of laboratory examinations and tests including specialized or experimental procedures assuring rapid and accurate results.

Major Responsibilities

• Establishes, directs, maintains, and reviews the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program and participates in the hospital Quality Assurance Program.
• Assumes responsibility of coordinating Laboratory proficiency testing programs.
• Guides and assists on quality assurance issues including AABB, CAP, FDA, and DNV inspections.
• Regularly reviews accrediting agency requirements and guidelines for compliance.
• At staffing requirements, performs under the laboratory’s Medical Laboratory Scientist major job functions, reporting to the assigned section Technical Leader and performs, maintains, and reviews scheduled quality control for appropriate areas.
• Participates in appropriate System QA committees, tasks forces, and activities.
• Maintains supply management for QA budget to include accreditation expenses.
• Conducts monthly departmental Quality Management meetings pertaining to quality assurance issues.
• Oversees and coordinates the document control process for laboratory policies and procedures.
• Oversees and coordinates the incident review process for the laboratory.

Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required

Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT, MLS, CLT, CLS) by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, AAB (AAB with 15 years experience) or equivalent. If not registered must be registry eligible – All newly hired technical staff must pass an approved certification exam within twelve (12) months of placement in this occupational classification.

Education Required

Must be a High School or GED Diploma graduate. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university to include minimum of 30 quarter hours of lecture science, including at least 15 quarter hours of chemistry, 10 quarter hours of biology, and 5 quarter hours of mathematics (or equivalent semester hours).

Experience

4 years of experience in general laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Must have computer knowledge and skills. Must have manual dexterity, must maintain patient confidentiality.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Must be able to use visual acuity to see monitor screen, computer and hard copy materials. Must be able to hear and verbally communicate in person and over the phone or radio. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time (up to 2 hours). Must be able to comprehend and learn operation of various office equipment. Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 50-60# specific to job evaluation. Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and apply proper body mechanics during the transfers and transport supplies and/or equipment using proper body mechanics. Must be able to lift up to 10# specific to job evaluation.
