Job description

TGen, the Translational Genomics Research Institute, a part of City of Hope, is an Arizona-based, nonprofit medical research institute dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research with life-changing results. We work to unravel the genetic components of common and complex diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, infectious disease, and rare childhood disorders. By identifying treatment options in this manner, we believe medicine becomes more rational, more precise and, well, more personal.

At TGen, we are setting a new medical standard where the future of medicine is happening now. We are pioneers in deciphering the story a person’s genome has to tell. For individuals faced with a serious diagnosis, our scientists and clinicians have the ability to let a patients’ genome reveal its uniqueness in ways that are both powerful and transformative, especially when it comes to treating disease in a precise and individual manner. A hallmark of TGen is our belief that by utilizing the latest technologies and collaborating with the strongest of partners, we can develop better tools to increase our understanding of complex diseases and to better predict which treatments might be most effective, i.e., one-of-a-kind clinical trials (the right drug, at the right dose, at the right time).

TGen’s translational approach and our experience at leveraging genomic information in support of achieving more precise and personalized treatments augments your work in ways other institutes cannot. Our affiliation with City of Hope allows you to integrate your work with a growing health system committed to research with highest potential for improvements in patient care. In short, our science-led business-supported approach means there’s no better place to move your research forward.

If you’re looking for a job with purpose, you’ll find it at TGen.

We are currently looking for a Clinical Laboratory Medical[TW1] Director to provide oversight for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory, including the development, implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures related to all aspects of a CLIA-certified molecular pathology laboratory, the employment of personnel who are competent to perform test procedures, and for assuring compliance with the applicable regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide pathology service pertaining to completion of processes related to each phase of testing: pre-analytic (e.g. tumor estimates, sample quality review) to post-analytic (curation content review, approval, and sign-out).
  • Make judgments about the medical significance of clinical laboratory data and communicate effectively in interpreting laboratory data and relating correlations to referring physicians as appropriate.
  • Communicate, relate and function effectively with applicable accreditation and regulatory agencies, the medical community and the patient population served. Stand responsible to the board through the administrator or to the agency owning the laboratory for the effective functioning of the laboratory where applicable.
  • Monitor utilization patterns of lab services and advise Leadership and other appropriate staff of developing trends in clinical molecular diagnostic testing and service needs; Establish and maintain lines of communication with internal and external customers in order to ensure a timely response to new clinical molecular diagnostic testing and service trends and program planning.
  • Ensure operational adherence to currently accepted technical service standards for genomic/molecular pathology laboratory medicine; Ensure operational adherence to applicable policies and procedures by all technical and operational staff; Participate in the development and implementation of operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements; Advise on all contracts into which the lab may enter.
  • Lead and direct the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes in the field of advanced molecular pathology diagnostics; discussions relating to the assessment of need and/or consideration for adoption and integration of the latest molecular diagnostic approaches to the current test menu.
What is REQUIRED?
  • MD or DO, with current medical license
  • Board-certified in anatomic and/or clinical pathology by ABP or AOBP or equivalent
  • Greater than 5 years related clinical and/or molecular pathology laboratory experience.
