Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation in Memphis is seeking a Laboratory Transport Aide responsible for dispatch and transport of blood and specimens and for assisting the lab team with clerical and technical tasks related to diagnostic testing.

The role may include CLIA waived testing, maintaining specimen integrity, proper labeling with three patient identifiers, record-keeping, and supporting customers and students as part of a compliant, patient-centered lab environment in a busy hospital

Qualifications

• Certification or degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological fields or equivalent years of experience and education.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to specimen collection and preservation requirements, media requirements and storage.
• Receives specimens in the lab and handles them proficiently.
• Follow accreditation standards, regulatory requirements and institutional policies.
• Ensure accurate patient identification using at least three unique identifiers.
• Record and retrieve laboratory data accurately.
• Distribute samples in a timely manner.
• Track specimens effectively.
• Comply with reference lab specimen requirements, receiving and processing.
• Load/unload blood culture bottles and perform CLIA waived tests.
• Assist customers, including answering phones and responding to inquiries.
• Maintain clean and organized laboratory supplies and work area.
• Assist with training new employees and students.
• Complete assigned goals.

Job Summary

Responsible for dispatch and/or transport of blood and other specimens. Assists the laboratory staff with clerical and technical tasks indirectly related to the delivery of quality patient care, for the purpose of diagnostic testing. May perform CLIA waived laboratory testing. Performs routine duties in the lab. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

• Adhere to all specimen collection and preservation requirements, media requirements and storage.


• Demonstrates proficiency in receiving specimens in the lab.


• Follow accreditation standards, regulatory agency requirements and institutional policies.


• Accurate and complete patient identification requirements, using at least three (3) unique patient identifiers.


• Demonstrate proficiency in recording and retrieving laboratory data.


• Timely distribution of samples.


• Proficiency in specimen tracking.


• Proficiency in reference lab specimen requirements, receiving and processing.


• Proficiency in loading and unloading of blood culture bottles and performing CLIA waived tests.


• Assists customers, including answering phones and responding to customer inquiries


• Cleans and maintains laboratory supplies and work area


• Assists with training and educating new employees and students


• Completes assigned goals.

Minimum Education

Certification/Degree in the following areas which include, but are not limited to medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological or equivalent years of experience and education.
