Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to support laboratory staff by processing specimens accurately and safely. The role includes preparing specimens for analysis while maintaining positive patient identification, performing order entry, and verifying patient collection data with appropriate sources.

The position may also involve clerical tasks and waived laboratory testing as needed.

Competenze

• High School graduate or equivalent required; two years healthcare experience preferred.
• Certification as Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA) not required but preferred.
• Thorough understanding of Clinical Laboratory procedures not required but preferred.

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant will perform tasks to assist laboratory technical staff in processing specimens and performs specimen processing in a safe, accurate and professional manner. Prepares various specimens for analysis while maintaining positive patient identification throughout the preparation process. Performs order entry and retrieves and verifies patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate sources . This position may also perform multiple functions such as clerical work and waived laboratory testing.

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent required and two (2) years of healthcare experience preferred. Certification as Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA) not required but preferred.

Job Knowledge:

Thorough understanding of Clinical Laboratory procedures not required but preferred. Must satisfactorily complete and maintain compliance with the approved mandatory shipping course regarding hazardous shipments within one (1) month of hire. Must satisfactorily complete a competency assessment by the Section Supervisor or designee within 3 months of hire.

Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• A.Requires ability to lift and move boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
• B.Job requires extended periods of standing, walking, and use of stairway.
• C. Job involves exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases.
