Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a medical technologist to perform routine and specialized tests in a pediatric laboratory setting.

The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent, meet regulatory requirements for complex testing, and demonstrate strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities. This role includes maintaining compliance and contributing to quality initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in chemical or biological sciences, or associate’s degree in laboratory sciences or medical laboratory technology (60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in MLS courses) or qualified as a technologist under 42CFR493.1489(b)(2)(B)(4) or (5)(i).
  • Meets all regulatory requirements for moderate or high complexity testing as appropriate within assigned area.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task.

Responsibilities

  • Follows clinical laboratory testing procedures and policies for routine and specialized tests; identifies sources of test problems and recommends actions.
  • Applies scientific method in problem solving and assists in evaluating new methods; ensures quality control criteria are met and follows lab policies for hazardous substances.
  • Records documentation to comply with agency and hospital regulations; performs instrument maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • Instructs and trains rotating residents, students, physicians and new staff in testing procedures as needed.
  • Maintains clean work area and ensures supplies are adequate at each station.
  • Assists in development and evaluation of new procedures and protocols.
  • Performs duties with a service focus of innovation, excellence, and teamwork to provide high-quality care.
