Job summary

Mayo Career Site UK is seeking a laboratory professional to collect, receive, and process specimens in a safe, accurate, and professional manner. You will perform clinical testing with automated, semi-automated, and manual methods and ensure accuracy through QC/QA procedures.

You will maintain instrumentation, troubleshoot equipment, and follow standard precautions while collaborating with providers and colleagues across multiple sections. Weekend, overnight, and holiday shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Perform clinical testing using automated, semi-automated, and/or manual methods.
• Perform QC/QA procedures to ensure accurate reporting of test results.
• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
• Troubleshoot machines and resolve technical issues.
• Follow standard precautions at all times.
• Display competency in phlebotomy for all ages.
• Communicate with providers, nurses, and colleagues about critical values.
• Work across Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology/PCR, Urinalysis, and Processing.
• Available for weekends, overnight, and holiday shifts.

Job description

Collect, receive, and process the appropriate specimens (body fluids, blood, urine, swabs, stools, etc.) in a safe, accurate, and professional manner with the proper technique. Perform clinical testing using a variety of automated, semi-automated, and/or manual technology as defined by current job assignment. Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures to ensure accurate reporting of test results. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance of various equipment. Troubleshoot machines and solve technical issues. Follow standard precautions at all times. Participate in external quality controls like CAP proficiencies and perform laboratory competencies. Maintain laboratory documentation and files. Display competency in phlebotomy for all age ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics. Conduct validation, verification, and correlation of the equipment. Communicate effectively to providers, nurses, and colleagues regarding critical values and clinical care. Perform in different sections of the laboratory: Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology/PCR, Urinalysis, and Receiving and Processing Specimens. Perform operational support functions to facilitate workflow. Must be available to work weekends, overnight, and holiday shifts.
