Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I–II to support specimen processing in a fast-paced clinical lab. You will handle, prepare, and accessions patient specimens, ensuring accuracy and safety in accordance with regulatory standards.

The role involves rotating shifts as a Per Diem position, with opportunities to contribute to quality control, inventory, and interdepartmental communication to support reliable patient care.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor or Associate degree in clinical or related science field.
• Enrollment with at least two semesters completed in related science program.
• ASCP MLA certification or active enrollment in MLA track.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, accession, and process patient specimens for testing in Laboratory Medicine.
• Safely handle potentially infectious specimens in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Match orders with specimen information to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
• Prepare specimens including centrifugation, labeling, and aliquoting.
• Deliver prepared specimens to testing areas promptly and maintain logs and QC.
• Assist with specimen packaging for reference laboratories per regulations.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Bachelor or Associate degree in clinical or related science field

Enrollment with at least two semesters completed of a related degree

ASCP Certified as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA)
