Job summary

Carson Valley Health is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology/immunology, molecular testing and more. The role requires drawing venous/capillary blood and drug screen collections, while ensuring accurate reports and adherence to protocol.

The ideal candidate will hold a CLS license or be eligible for Nevada licensure, with at least 2 years of full-time CLS experience and strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) to support a

  • A 4-year Bachelors degree in Science.
  • Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Medical Technologist, or eligible for licensure as a General Supervisor of a Licensed Laboratory with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
  • License AMT (American Medical Technologist) or ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology).
  • Minimum of 2 years full time experience working as a licensed Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS).
  • Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, proven problem solving and experience in providing confidential administrative support.

Responsibilities

  • Be totally familiar with all procedures as outlined in the procedure manual.
  • Perform laboratory procedures in as timely a fashion as accuracy will allow using technical knowledge and expertise, insuring proper specimen procedure and correct final report.
  • Learn the operation and function of all lab equipment and instrumentation for the purpose of troubleshooting any malfunction.
  • Obtain blood, urine and other clinical specimens in a manner, which will insure acceptable and properly identified samples.
  • Enters Lab orders into LIS correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Has overall knowledge of LIS including looking up results, faxing and printing results, specimen tracking, call list, and pending list.

Job description

Summary

Performs various chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microscopic, serology/Immunology, molecular testing, bacteriology, and blood bank testing to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Must be thoroughly familiar with the calibration, use and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Draws venous, capillary, blood as well as performing Drug Screen collections all according to protocol. Works together with lab and other department staff to create a smooth workflow.

Minimum/Preferred Requirements

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Learn the operation and function of all lab equipment and instrumentation for the purpose of troubleshooting any malfunction.
  • Effect repairs as needed under the supervision of the Lab Manager and/or Assist Chief Tech.
  • Obtain blood, urine and other clinical specimens in a manner, which will insure acceptable and properly identified samples. Strict adherence to two patient identifier policies.
  • Enters Lab orders into LIS correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Has overall knowledge of LIS including looking up results, faxing and printing results, specimen tracking, call list, and pending list.
